Vasilii Alekseievich Vatagin

(1883–1969)

 



Educated as zoologist at Moscow University and learned painting in several studios. Visited many zoos in Europe, also participated in many expeditions. Illustrated many fundamental books in zoology written by such outstanding scientists as M.A. Menzbier, S.I. Ognev. Worked in this Museum in 1931 to 1958 and several large panel pictures; about 100 smaller pictures are now displayed in the Museum exhibitions. Some of Vatagin's works are also in Darwinian Museum and Tretiakov Gallery in Moscow, in Russian Museum in St.Petersburg.
