Prokofy Akinfovich Demidoff

(1710–1788)

 

Educated person, a noticed patron of arts and natural sciences. He was in correspondence with C. Linnaeus, established the first Botanical garden in Moscow, contributed to Nikita A. Demidoff's natural history collection which became a “precursor” of the Cabinet of Natural History of Moscow University. He also donated his own herbarium to the University (burned in 1812) and supported poor students at the University.
