Other donations to the Museum in the earlier years of its history
During the first years of the Museum's history,
there were some important donations of other collections, usually
a mixture of various kinds of objects. They included not only remains
of the animals (most frequently - insects, shells, birds, mammals),
but also minerals and even coins and artifacts. Among most famous
donators of those times was Emperor Alexander I who purchased for
the Museum pretty big so called Semyatichi Cabinet of Natural History
owned by Prince Jablonovskys family. A collection of fishes and
amphibians presented to the Museum by Count A. Stroganoff is also
worthy being mentioned. Besides those noble persons, the Museum
from the vary beginning used to acquire important collections from
such famous travelers as G. Langsdorff and I. Eschscholz..
