Born in a village of Tul'skaia Government. Began
to paint and sculpture (of bread) domestic animals when he was 5
years old. Graduated in 1901 from School of Painting, Sculpture,
and Architecture. Illustrated many natural history books and journals,
worked with all state publishing houses since 1917, among most widely
known to zoologists are the books "Game birds and mammals of the
USSR", "Birds of Soviet Union" etc. He participated in numerous
scientific expeditions. Komarov's paintings are kept in many museums
of Moscow.
