According to the records dated by 2002, collection of type specimens includes 587 specimens in total, of which there are 289 holotypes, 25 neotypes, 39 syntypes. Specimens collected by S.I. Ognev and W.G. Heptner constitute the major part of this collection; besides, type materials of K.A. Satunin, A.P. Kuzyakin, S.U. Stroganov, V.N. Shnitnikov, A.G. Bannikov are also present. In recent years, they were added with types described by M.I. Baskevich (birch mice), Yu.M. Kovalskaya (grey voles, birch mice), G.I. Shenbrot (jerboas).
