Ichthyological collection of Zoological Museum is quite large and representative. It covers fresh waters of most parts of the former USSR and most significant regions of the World Ocean. Less complete is representation of other regions, especially of South America and Africa.

At present, collection of Division of Ichthyology contains about 21.000 registered items which represent more than 4.000 species belonging to 400 families of 56 orders of all classes of lower aquatic vertebrates.


Curators

Dr. E.D. Vasil'eva is Curator in Charge responsible for most ichthyological collections (phone 629-49-06).

Some of deep water fish collections are under curation of Dr. Yu.N. Sherbachev of Institute of Oceanology (phone 129-20-18).
