Type collection of fishes counts about 600 items,
including more than 120 holotypes and about 450 paratype series.
The served as a basis for descriptions of more than 240 species
belonging to 62 families of 25 orders.
The oldest type specimens in the collection of Division of Ichthyology
are syntypes of Kessler's species of Pseudoscaphirhynchus and
Salmo trutta described by him in 1870s. Besides, of interest
are the types described by Gratsianov, Ghor, Herzenstein, Taranets,
