Division of Mammalogy is a unit of Zoological
Museum, its staff now consists of 6 persons dealing with mammals
and curating collection of the Division. I.Ya. Pavlinov is the Chief
of the Division.
The principal fields of interests are classical
taxonomy (predominantly phylogenetic one) of certain mammal taxa
(mainly rodents, bats, lagomorphs), fauna and ecological morphology.
Some theoretical problems of taxonomy and phylogenetics are also
being studied.
Collections of recent mammals of the World constitute
the basis of collection stock of the Division. They are basically
of classic kind: dry skins and skulls, postcranial skeletons, alcohol
specimens. Most recently, a collection tissue samples for DNA analyses
started. By amount and taxonomic representation, collection of the
Division is one of the largest in the World.
The collection includes not only the specimens
proper but various forms of documentations. Electronic data base
is held on since 1998.
The office (room ¹ 30) and most of collection
rooms (¹ 32-40) of the Division, as well as working places for the
visitors are situated on the second floor of the right wing of the
Museum building (along B. Nikitskaya Str.). The office phones are
