Photographic collection
This collection includes original photographs, black-and-white films, photographic plates, lithographs, photographs and photographic plates taken from the original drawings and paintings, as well as photo albums. There are more than 1000 storage units registered in the corresponding catalogs. The photographs show old interiors and expositions of the Museum; biologists, artists, hunters, and various moments from the life of the Museum itself and its staff, including expedition events. The quality of the images is sometimes low, because they are mostly amateur pictures; however, they are important for their storing a unique information about people, dates, places, which is of undoubted historical value. To date, descriptions of 870 storage units have been entered into electronic database, including information about 470 scientists and other people associated with the Museum. The photographic collection is now digitized to make its contents available for publications both in electronic sources and in the books issued by the Museum.
