    The Department of Exposition and Educational Works

    The main activities of the Department include organization and carrying out the educational events, namely excursions, lectures, interactive classes, environmental holidays, and providing the visitors with certain facilities for their getting acquainted with the wildlife diversity.

    The Department deals with various categories of visitors, develops and implements educational projects and programs, elaborates methodological guidelines and reference materials for the excursions, lectures, public events, and it also organizes advertising actions. It is responsible for due maintaining and moderating of the permanent exhibition, for elaborating thematic excursions, creating new temporary exhibitions, some of them jointly with other museums and private collectors.

    Several dozen thematic excursions in the Museum exhibition halls are available and are of interest to the visitors of various categories, including preschoolers, students of schools and lyceums, college and university students, groups of disabled people and veterans, etc.

    In addition to the excursions led by the professional guides, during which the visitors get acquainted with the Museum exhibition, the Biological Lecture Hall is opened on weekends to conduct popular lectures with the demonstration of Museum collections, movies, and quizzes. These events are designed basically for the children from 5 years old accompanied by their parents.

    An interesting part of the Museum exposition includes the Scientific Terrarium, which is a collection of the living reptiles, and the Museum experts tell the visitors about them in an accessible form.

    Interactive classes are also held in the Museum. They are carried out in the form of active communication, personal performance of the particular tasks, discussion on certain problematic issues, etc. The classes are based on the demonstration of the Museum collections, and their topics are adapted to different age groups.

    The Department organizes and holds environmental holidays, which have become one of the new forms of the Museum's activity in the field of environmental education. These holidays also include creative contests and master classes held as the particular events.

    The Department is a regular participant of the annual inter-museum project “Olympiad. Museums. Parks. Estates”. The project involves both the classes led by their teachers and the family groups. Also, the events of “Night of Museums” (since 2007) and “Night of Geography” (since 2020) are held on the annual basis.

    Besides, the members of the Department conduct lectures, master classes, and interactive classes with children in the schools and at various venues in Moscow, and they participate in the festivals of “Primordial Russia” and “SCIENCE 0+”, organized by the Lomonosov Moscow State University.

    The Department is located on the second floor, rooms 16 and 19.
